About the Canfield House

The Canfield House, originally built in 1900 as the summer home of lumber baron Charles Canfield, has been completely renovated while maintaining its original charm. Guests can enjoy the luxurious amenities of today while relishing in the home's rich history.

The Inn is situated in the scenic village of Onekama, 45 miles southwest of Traverse City, and overlooks the tranquil Portage Lake. The Canfield House is known as the Inn with two lakes, as guests have access to 200 feet of private beach on Portage Lake and are just a short distance from the miles of Lake Michigan beaches. Boaters can experience Portage Lake's protected and immaculate waters or the endless ports of call offered by Lake Michigan as Portage Lake channels into Lake Michigan.
